  • Cattle supply in the north had decreased due to the civil war,but Texas had the most cattle in the United States.In which sold for 36 dollars for a head of a cattle.So ranchers would go through grueling miles to the stock yards.But it all ended after going through indian territory,another ranch(which would kill their cattle because of Texas Fever).
  • In the year 1892 a man named Pattillo Higgins grabbed a couple of friends to help him drill for oil at Spindletop Hill or Big Hill.He soon ran an advertisement for a drilling engineer to help him drill.He started at Spindletop,but his equipment was not strong enough to go deeper.He tried again on January 10, 1901.It gave them 800,000 barrels before they could cap it.
  • Most ways of transportation in Texas was really slow.Rivers were shallow,dirt roads always turned to mud after a rainy day,but as railing systems were just around the corner people got excited.Railroads were cheap,fast,and reliable!It was faster than horse to transport goods around Texas.For every 100 pounds the railroads charged you 1 cent.
