Hernando De Soto, who was a conquistador, meets with the King of Spain. He sends De Soto on a mission to La Florida.
Hello! I am now granting you to be the Cuban governor. I also want you to go colonize La FLorida. I will not be giving you any supplies though.
Thank you for the honor! I will do my best to conquer the land.
Alright everyone, we have finally made it to La Florida.
Hernando De Soto and his force arrived at La Florida from Cuba. They brought along with them many animals and supplies. This was when horses were introduced to the Americas.
Hernando De Soto and his soldiers traveled through La FLorida. They met Juan Ortiz who had knowledge. He traveled with them to Georgia on the search for gold.
Could you help us find the gold?
My name is Juan Ortiz. I have been here for a while, so I know a thing or to about here.
We are taking all of these supplies.
Hernando De Soto and his men traveled to Georgia in search of gold. They came across many conflicts. The environment was very different for them, and they had conflicts with the Natives. The men tortured the Indians.
Although on the journey for gold, Hernando De Soto and his men were unsuccessful. This mission was marked as a failure to them. They also very much so impacted this land by bringing over diseases.
Go make us food right now!
Wow, they are really sick...I believe they had smallpox.
Ughh, we feel absolutely horrible.
After leaving La Florida, the men decided to continue exploring. Later on, De Soto had died from a fever. The members wrapped his body and threw him into the Mississippi River. While the journey was considered a failure, much impact came from it. De Soto's men were the first and last to encounter Mississippian cultured people. This visit of De Soto also structured the hostile relationship between the Natives and Europeans.
He sure will be missed. What a shame he died this way.
