It was a warm sunny day, and Cupcake was sitting all by herself on a bench by a slide in the community park. Everyone was having fun playing on the new equipment that the government had just added. Cupcake felt left out and wanted to play too, but she was too scared of what people would think of her. Her family had just moved to Pennsylvania from Ohio, and Cupcake had not yet quite settled in.
Rising Action / Conflict
Meanwhile, Peach was busy playing on the new set of large, iron swings with her friend, Apple. Cupcake longingly watched them play, and sighed. ¨Nobody likes me,¨ she thought. As she sat there, her thoughts drifted off to a distant, happy, imaginary, faraway land. It was as if the wind was whispering to tell her to enjoy. ¨I wish I could live there instead," she thought.
¨Don´t have any friends Cupcake?¨ a voice behind her boomed. Cupcake snapped back into the present to see Lemon, the town´s biggest bully, now right in front her. Lemon snickered. Cupcake could feel her face reddening as she turned her head downwards to look at the soft grass beneath her feet.¨How embarrassing it was to be seen so lonely,¨ she thought, ashamed at herself. Lemon continued to make fun of Cupcake, smirking and making faces.
Falling Action / Resolution
Peach was talking to Apple when she noticed the conflict happening between Lemon and Cupcake. Immediately, she jumped to her feet and hurried towards them to see what was going on, Apple right behind her.
Cupcake thought Peach and Apple were part of Lemon's gang, so she quickly stepped back in fear. Instead, Peach began to defend Cupcake. As Lemon and Peach continued to argue, it dawned on Cupcake that Peach and Apple were nice, and that they were standing up for her.
When Lemon finally gave up and left, Peach turned to Cupcake and smiled. "Do you want to play with us?" she asked. "Sure!" replied Cupcake, her face lighting up. She hid a smile as she skipped away joyfully with her first two friends in Pennsylvania. That day, they had all learned something. True friends will always stand up for each other, no matter the cost.
