There was a man named Charlie that would give anything to be smart. The only thing he wanted to do was to help people. "They said you know it will probly be tempirery. I said yes. Miss Kinnian told me. I dont care if it herts." Page 2
Charlie and a mouse named Algernon had the same operation on them to made learn and understand concepts quicker. "Then Dr Nemur nodded he said all right maybe your right. We will use Charlie." Page 3
Algernon was starting to act weird and his intelligence was starting to decrease. The doctors started to believe that the affects that Algernon where going through would happen to Charlie.
"Everyone identifies Algernon with me. They're all pretending that Algernon's behavior is not necessarily significant to me." Page 16
Algernon dies and Charlie is having trouble remembering things that he used to know. He is still frantic to try and find a way for the side affects to stop. "I put Algernon's body in a cheese box and buried him in the backyard. I cried." Page 19
Charlie with his new found intelligence, started researching for was to stop the side affects while he is slowly forgetting what he is learning at the same time. "I reread my paper on the Algernon-Gordon Effect and I get a strange feeling that it was written by someone else." Page 19
Charlie eventually got to the same level of intelligence that he started with before the operation. He didn't remember who he used to be and wanted to move somewhere else, also getting a new life. He doesn't want to see everyone feel sorry for him or make mistakes that hurt people. He left his home with a hope to get at least a little smarter than he was than before the operation and to get a second chance to live a new life.
"Im going away from New York for good. If I try reel hard maybe Ill be a littel bit smarter then I was before the operashun." Page 22
