Storyboard Text

  • Napoleon no longer wanted Haiti. he agreed to give the Haitians independence and Toussaint agreed to retire from public life.
  • You leave the public and Haiti can be free
  • Done deal
  • Toussaint was invited to come to a negotiating meeting with safe conduct promised. At Napoleon's orders, he was arrested and put on a ship headed for France. Thus breaking the safe conduct agreement.
  • *Hey this was not part of the deal*
  • Too bad so sad, I do what I want
  • Toussaint was placed in a prison dungeon in the mountains and murdered by means of cold, starvation, and neglect. Toussaint died in prison
  • I die a terrible death, but my legacy is carried on
  • Napoleon eventually gave up his possessions in the New World. He was busy in Europe and the far-away possessions weren't worth the trouble

  • I give up my land over seas, too much effort.
  • While in exile at St. Helena, Napoleon spoke of Toussaint's treatment when he said, "What could the death of one wretched black man mean to me?" But he was the one to lose power, and die in prison. Haiti remained free
