In order to become President you have to be at least 35 years old, a natural born citizen, and have to be a citizen for at least 14 years.

The candidate who gets the most votes nationwide is said to have won the popular vote.
The Popular Vote
The popular vote is the total number or percentage of votes cast for a candidate by voters in the 50 states and Washington D.C. The winner of the Popular vote (less than 50 % but more than the rest of the candidates), takes all of the states' Electoral votes.
The Electoral College consists of 538 electors. A majority of of 270 electoral votes is required to elect the President. You help choose your state's electors when you vote for the President because when you vote for your candidate you are actually voting for you candidates electors.
