Benjamin Franklin was born on January 17, 1706. His parents were Josiah and Anne. Josiah was a candle maker.
He leaves home to become an apprentice printer. His brother in law criticized him for leaving . He wrote back and was impressed with his writing skills. Sir William Keith saw it and encouraged him to make a printing shop of his own.
He also liked inventing. He thought that lightning was electricity. He put a key attached to the string of a kite. Lightning stroke. He touched the key and got a little shock. This proved that Benjamin's theory was true.
This is the Boston Massacre. Some colonists threw snowballs at the redcoats. They started to fire. This is one thing that made Benjamin Franklin a patriot. Patriots wanted to gain their independence from Britain.
The fight to gain independence began. The colonists were losing until the victory of the Battle of Saratoga. France signed an offical alliance to help the colonists win independence. In 1783, the war was over and the colonists had won.
Benjamin Franklin sadly died on April 17, 1790 in his home. He will always be known as one of the greatest founding fathers of our country.
