The main idea/important event in Gn 11 is the people that survived the flood start building a tower/city so God ended up switching the languages and spreading the people around. The first thing that happens is right after the flood the people started to make bricks. They then decided to start building a city. Next, God came down to see if they were populating the earth as he asked. When he saw they were building a city he got upset because it was not what he asked. He asked to populate but instead, they were building a tower towards the heavens to build a name for themselves. Finally, God decided he would switch the languages because the language was making them sin. He decided to move people around which made them stop building the Tower. He took matters into his own hands because they weren’t populating earth so he moved them around so they could populate. A life lesson we can learn from this passage is that language is not was separates us instead of it's our pride. What that means is that because of our pride we use language to separate us from people like God.
"Then they said, 'Come, let us build ourselves a city and a tower with its top in the sky, and so make a name for ourselves; otherwise we shall be scattered all over the earth' " (Gn 11:4).
Then the Lord said: If now, while they are one people and all have the same language, they have started to do this, nothing they presume to do will be out their reach" (Gn 11:6)
" So the Lord scattered them from there over all the earth, and they stopped building the city" (Gn 11:8).
Life Lesson It is not Language, but the Pride that separates us from God.
