  • What's the difference between the two a change is a change right?
  • 1.Asking Questions and Defining Problems. John thinks that physical and chemical changes are the same but there not.
  • Hello John, you are here today to learn about physical and chemical changes, the kitchen is a perfect place to do so.
  • Oh okay but why, it doesn't make sense.
  • 2.Developing and Using Models. The chef gave examples for a physical change and a chemical change.
  • Wrong, let me tell you a example. Cutting a lemon is a physical change. And cooking an egg is a chemical change.
  • 3.Planning and Carrying out Investigations. John realized that the egg and lemon has changed but hasn't seen the difference of how they changed.
  • I see that cutting the lemon changed it's looks and cooking the egg changed its looks.
  • Now lets test our examples come here and cut the lemon and cook the egg what do you realize.
  • Physical and chemical reactions both involve changes instate of matter. They are different because a physical reaction doesn't involve chemical changes only physical ones.
  • John lets compare and contrast physical and chemical changes.
  • 4. Analyzing and Interpreting Data. John compared and contrasted physical and chemical changes.
  • John lets compare and contrast physical and chemical changes
  • Well Sir, a chemical reaction like cooking an egg makes the egg turn into a new substances by giving off or receiving energy.
  • 5. Using Mathematics and Computational Thinking. John proved his reasoning by using mathematical facts.
  • After analyzing the experiment, prove it with math.
  • Cutting the lemon was a physical change because cutting a lemon is changing its physical property not chemical.
  • 6. Constructing Explanations and Designing Solutions. John was asked to explain his reasoning for why it was a physiacl change and he did with a scientific idea.
  • John, can you explain why cutting the lemon was a physical change?
