  • Don't forget to pay taxes!
  • Now that the food prices have risen, I have been starving!
  • Our incomes are getting smaller!
  • Now that I am unemployed, I can't afford food/find a job! 
  • What can we do?
  • The First and Second Estate had many privileges such as living in palaces and holding positions such as officers in the army.
  • How are we going to afford food now that our family is growing?
  • I heard that nobles are demanding for higher rents!
  • The First and Second Estate had almost complete authority of peasants and were exempt from most of the taxes. The Third Estate had to pay taxes and were forced to do military service.
  • Government should be chosen by and for the people!
  • Actually the tax system was corrupted!
  • The bad harvest in the years 1797-1789 led to french farmers to be unemployed, have smaller incomes, suffered starvation due to the high food prices.
  • Queen Marie-Antoinette with your luxuries you wasted all our money!
  • Actually France used the money by fighting costly wars.
  • The condition that contributed to economic discontent was that the French population kept growing which meant families were in need of food in which they they couldn't afford.
  • Enlightenment thinkers such as Montesquieu, Voltaire, Locke, Hobbes, Rousseau made people believe that there were laws for people to live by to.
  • In 1787, the French government was bankrupt due to fighting costly wars however,  there were other causes believed that led to this.
