As electric vehicles are becoming more prominent in today’s market, we see that vehicles with combustion engines are the thing of the past. However, in last year 20 million vehicles were sold of that only 1% of those were electric. Then how come are they still being out sold? The problem lies within the range and distance an electric vehicle can reach.
Charging an electric vehicle battery can take from 30 min to 12 hours depending on the outlet and size of the battery, but on average it takes about 4 hours. Therefore, you do not want to spend too much time recharging your battery. You might want to save that time and instead enjoy it on the road. You know what they say: “time is money”
We had the idea of building a system that would extend the mileage of electric cars. The system would work as an upgrade that would increase the efficiency of the battery’s usage. Our team will test our system by building a car that will compete in the Shell Eco-marathon.
Our product we will seek to reduce range anxiety of users by improving the efficiency of the vehicle. Imagine a future in which the efficiency of electric vehicles can come with an update just like that of smartphones vs a future where we are still relying on non renewable resources to power our cars. With that picture in mind, you can see that increasing the efficiency of cars will help us get to a greener, cleaner, and safer future.
