I had been silent all the way there because I did not want to go. I wished I was back in Chicago ,even if I only lived in a tiny flat but at least I had friends. My father had been sold some land and if he farmed well he would get good money for it but I didn’t like the idea at all …
Don't be a wimp
I am Scared
Let's do this thing
When we arrived at Dakota we had to make a house out of hard packed mud and start working on the farm, then a month or two after after we arrived It was our first day of school.
Ahh! Lets get back to our houses
Since it was just a tiny town there was only one room and one teacher teaching all the younger kids mixed in with the older kids, The teacher was called Ms Rosa and she showed me to the three other boys my age. I normally listen to the gang but never talked then one day I was listening then something of interest caught my attention. They were saying about a Snake called the king rattler they were going to kill it then I realized the conversation had gone terribly quiet. They were looking at me I closed my eyes waiting to hear the frustration in his voice but it didn't come he wasn’t cross he just said “do you want to come?” I didn’t know what to say in a rush I said “yes!” I walked home with a skip in my step I was happy to say I had friends.
Oh no! It wasn't a dream after all
We walked towards the river when we found the den I was going to chop of its head when they lured it out of the den the snake came sliding out of its murky den. I edged back in terror and slipped into the river For a few minutes I went down the river then a slippery hand grabbed me and pulled me out. Are you all right they said “what's wrong with you face” I was looking up at the sky at a ginormous cloud but it was changing shapes It must be grasshoppers.
We started running back to are houses yelled “bye” at each other and run into are front doors I was so puffed out I could only whisper grasshoppers. The next week was a disaster the grasshoppers eat all are food. Then a month after the word of grasshoppers had reached Chicago and they chased all the grasshoppers away.
One morning I woke up and said to dad “have the grasshoppers gone” he said “what grasshoppers” I was relieved I was just a dream. When I was walking to school I noticed little bites on my arm I was so horrified .It wasn't a dream after all.
