A long time ago, in the year 1800, there was a strange election that included ties and many insults. Thomas Jefferson and John Adams ran for president, while Aaron Burr and Charles Pickney ran for vice president. Jefferson and Burr ran together against Adams and Pickney.
Soon news articles came out ambushing the other candidate with insults and partly nonsense content. They ending up not focusing on real issues, and more on take the other person down.

Alexander Hamilton had a huge influence on this election, even though he was not running. Him and his followers refused to support John Adams because of disagreements with the president's foreign policy. In stead of Adams, he supported Pickney because he believed he would be able to the country into the new century.
