Kyra is a time traveler her science teacher is teaching the class about simple machines. Using her abilities Kyra wants to travel back in time and see how simple machines have been used historically. but she doesn't know where she will land or when. Will Kyra be able to identify the simple machines around her?
Simple Machines in History
I wonder how simple machines have been used throught history?
China 4th century BC during Partion of Jin Seige
That's one huge lever I wonder what they are using it for? Wait don't shoot!
1/17/17 Today I almost died! I landed on top of a building and saw the army! A giant lever pointed right at the building I was sitting on. I remembered that levers make work easier by reducing the force needed to move an object I knew I needed to get out of there fast before that lever made work of me!
1/18/17 Today I traveled led on the path of some of the pioneers of the country I traveled by carriage. To make the trip faster the carriage had the simple machine wheel and axle. The work was easier for the horse because it decreases friction and is a force multiplier. Since the efficiency is output dived by input and this is a force multiplier this is an efficient machine.
America 1850s AD during the westward expansion
Athens Greece 447 BC during construction of the Parthenon
1/20/17 Today I traveled back to Ancient Greece I met a girl there named Helga who taught me about a simple machine called the pully. She told me that the mechanical advantage of this pulley must be equal to the number of sections of rope supporting pulley. She said that pulley decrease the work they have to do since pulleys can change the direction of the force. Isn't that cool!
What does that do?
This is a pully we use it to hoist heavy stones up high to build the Parthenon.
1/22/17 Did you know? During the construction of the pyramids, the inclined plane was used to move heavy rocks. Ramps make lifting heavy objects like rocks easier because you push it up at a greater distance with less force. The person I met in Egypt also told me that the mechincal advantage is equal to the ration of input force to output force. I didnt like Egypt very much it was to Hot!
Egypt 2600 BC during the construction of the Pyrmids
Wow, look at those pyramids! I wonder how they got all that stone up that high
Kyra realized as she looked down that simple machines were only the beginning they paved the way for industrialization the lifestyle we have today would not have been achieved if not for those early machines. That aided people around the world in everyday life. She was glad to be home
