  • 'Upon my head they placed a fruitless crown,' MACBETH
  • ACT 3 SCENE 2
  • 'Be innocent of the knowledge, dearest chuck,' MACBETH
  • ACT 3 SCENE 3
  • 'Fly good Fleance, fly fly fly! Thou mayest revenge BANQUO
  • Although Macbeth is dressed as king he is still paranoid about the threat of Banquo and his son . He plans to murder them both so that the throne will stay within his family.
  • ACT 3 SCENE 4
  •  What, has your foolishness paralyzed you completely? LADY MACBETH
  • Although Lady Macbeth is desparing Macbeth insists that she is friendly and jovial towards Banquo at the feast. This will prevent Banquo from seeing he is in danger.
  • ACT 3 SCENE 5
  • 'How did you dare to trade and traffic with Macbeth' HECATE
  • Banquo is murdered in the woods but his son Fleance escapes in the darkness.
  • ACT 3 SCENE 6
  • 'The son of Duncan from who this tyrant holds the due of birth' LORD
  • At the feast Macbeth is told that Banquo is dead and Fleance has escaped. Macbeth sees Banquo's ghost sitting in his chair. Lady Macbeth excuses his strange behaviour to the guests. Macbeth tells his wife he will visit the witches again.
  • Hecate rebukes the witches for meddling with Macbeth. She tells them to summon visions and spirits whose messages will give Macbeth a full sense of security.
  • Lennox and a Lord discuss Scotland's plight. Macduff has gone to England to meet Malcom. Macbeth is referred to as a tyrant and it is clear that the nobles suspect him of murder.
