Rising Action 1
Mom! Mom! Can you hear me?
The main external conflict is between Jersey and Ronnie. Jersey wants to stay in Elizabeth and help rebuild their house and eventually live there. Meanwhile, Ronnie thinks that it is best for Jersey to go live with her real dad, Clay, and not be where these bad memories are.
"Who is this girl?"
The day of the tornado she was heading back to home from school, not really wanting to go back the next day. When she got home from school, Jersey turned on the TV and watched, what she saw was not going to be good...
"I can't answer this!"
After her mom and her sister, Marin, left for dance she decided to make supper. While she was doing this, however, she heard the tornado sirens go off. She went downstairs, hid under the table and called her mom and that would be the last time she would ever talk to her.
"Come on lets go!"
Why is he making me stay here?
Jersey's town was devastated by the tornado and she did not know what to do to help. Her step-father Ronnie made Jersey go to this small little town and live with her father, Clay. When he came home, however, he was always drunk and did not want her there. It was hard for Jersey to cope with everything that was going on.
While this was going on her step dad was trying to pick himself up from what had happened. So he decided to have the funerals for her mom and sister without her being there. He would never call her even when she wanted to talk to him.
After the funeral...
The phone reads... call from Jersey
By the end of the book, Jersey runs away from her father, Clay, and calls her best friend to come pick her up, instead her step father does. She was happy to see him but they were not going to go home. Instead, Ronnie, drops Jersey off at her grandparents house. There she gets closure about her mom and sisters death.
