  • The Buses in Montgomery were Segregated
  • Ok :(
  • You are black so you must sit at the back of the bus!
  • Rosa Parks refused to gve up her seat
  • I am not getting up!!
  • Then you are under arrest!!
  • The Black People of Montgomery Decided to Stop taking Buses
  • We are going to stop taking buses!
  • This means that black people had to sit at the back of the bus and white people had priority over all seats.
  • They Did Anything to Avoid getting on the Bus
  • December 1st 1955, Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat and was therefore arrested. This is what sparked the rebellion.
  • Buses Began to go out of Business
  • All of our customers were black, we aren't earning enough!
  • Black people stopped taking buses as a way of rebelling that wasn't against the law. They held a meeting in a local Baptist church, they decided to hold the protest on the 5th of December (Rosa's trial day)
  • The Result of the Boycott
  • In order to get to work, black people carpooled, walked, rode bicycles, and used horse-drawn buggies. Black taxi drivers lowered their fairs to ten cents, which was the same price as a bus fair. Despite not riding the bus, black people found ways to travel by organizing and working together.
  • Most people who rode the bus were black so when they stopped taking the bus no buses were earning enough money.
  • It signaled that a peaceful protest could result in the changing of laws to protect the equal rights of all people regardless of race.
