- Mathilde I got you an invitation to a very prestigious ball, so that you would be happy.
- No, I don't want to go since I don't have anything to wear.
- Mathilde is depressed that she is so poor, but in contrast Monsieur Loisel is content with what he has.
- Monsieur Loisel went through all that trouble just to make Madame Loisel happy, but she doesn't want to go because she doesn't own anything fancy enough to wear
- I had so much, why did I take it all for granted.
- I had to suffer the past ten years to pay off the debt of that precious necklace I borrowed from you.
- After taking money from her husband, Mathilde bought a dress, and with her husband's suggestion, she went to her friend and borrowed a beautiful necklace.
- Oh you poor thing! That necklace was a fake. You didn't have to pay that much for it.
- Mathilde danced the night away and before she knew it, it was time to go. However there was one problem, the necklace had disappeared!
