There go my headphones! I was too lazy to bring them to the dump, so I just threw them in the river!
The headphones will travel down the river and eventually make their way to the ocean, where sea creatures might eat them
hmmmm, It's feeding time! I'm hungry!
5 days later...
The headphones are an example of electronic waste, which is very common type of plastic in the oceans. Fish and other sea animals mistake it for food and eat it.
Hey! Look at this! It looks like some sort of food, but I've never seen it before! It tastes funny!
When a fish or sea animal eats plastic it coats the creature's stomach and gets entangled in its intestines. Because there is plastic in the fish's stomach it doesn't feel hungry and so doesn't eat any real food, recieving no nutrients, and so the fish dies.
Ugh, that food I ate last night didn't taste very good, and it's hurting my stomach. Hey, at least I don't feel hungry!
That's because you ate plastic, I did too, and I died. Now I'm only a ghost. As you soon will be.
Poor fishy! He's dead!! He probably ate that pair of headphones my sister threw in this river last week! I'm going to go talk to her.
