Whatis a LAN? Computers that are in close proximity to one another can be joined together to form a network. Which is called a LAN
Who owns the LAN? Someone owns the LAN. They are responsible for the hardware, the cables and the network itself. You normally need a user name and password to log onto a LAN.
Where would LAN's be used? They would be used in a home, an office, a school, a library etc.
What is a WAN? Two or more LANs in different locations can be connected together. When two or more LANs are connected they are called a Wide Area Network or WAN.
How are WAN's connected together? WAN's can be connected together via the telephone system. They can also be connected via fiber optic cables, satellites or microwave links.
How did the internet begin? The internet began life in 1969, when scientists working for the US Advanced Research Projects Agency connected computer networks at the University of California and the Stanford Research Institute.
What is the largest WAN in the world? The largest WAN in existence is the Internet.
