Stop selling indulgences! They are a lie and a scam!!
Well it's a way to make money for the Church, and people want them!!
Johann Tetzel is a preist who set up a pulpit on the outskirts of Wittenberg in 1517.
I wrote the 95 Theses. You should read them sometime.
There, he offered indulgences to anyone that would donate money to the rebuilding of the Cathedral of St. Peter. He claims indulgences will assure entry to heaven for them, and dead relatives.
Charles V: You've been excommunicated
Martin Luther doesn't agree with Johann Tetzel. He doesn't like that Tetzel is promising people an entry to heaven just for money.
The Future!
What happens next?
Martin Luther created the 95 Theses; arguments against indulgences. Examples are: - indulgences had no basis in the Bible - the pope had no authority to release souls from purgatory - Christians could only be saved through faith.
Charles V didn't like that Martin Luther created the 95 Theses, so he excommunicated him.
Martin Luther created a lot of change. For instance, the Church lost a lot of power and split up.
