Storyboard Text

  • I am Christopher Colombus. I would like to tell you about my life as an explorer.
  • Colombus was born in Spain, Italy, before 31 October, 1451. He went to sea at a young age, and completed four voyages across the Atlantic Ocean
  • He married Filipa Moniz and had one son. He had a sister, three brothers and two parents. He also had another son with his second wife. His sons' names were Diego and Fernando.
  • On August, 1492, Colombus departed from Spain with his 3 ships, Pinta, Nina and Santa Maria. King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella paid for this expedition.
  • Colombus returned from the voyage, a hero to the people of Spain.
  • His crew stopped at Canary Islands and then kept going for five weeks, when they reached the Bahamas, Colombus believed it to be India and took the gold from the local natives
  • On a second voyage, Colombus returned to the Bahamas with 17 ships. He introduced the tribute system, in which the natives had to give Colombus as much gold as he wanted. And if they did not bring enough gold, they were punished brutally.
