  • Children have one childhood and they should never have to go through it alone and nobody else should go through anything alone, adults and teens, too. A former French Historian, Georges Lefebvre says "Prayer is an end to isolation. It is living our daily life with someone; with him who alone can deliver us from solitude."
  • Introduction
  • Narration
  • Social isolation is a state of complete or near-complete lack of contact between an individual and society. It differs from loneliness, which reflects temporary and involuntary lack of contact with other humans in the world.
  • Isolation is severely detrimental to a child's social development. In the 1940s, René Spitz, a researcher, an Austrian-American psychoanalyst used child observation to determine just how detrimental a lack of important social interaction is to children. Harry Harlow conducted a study using monkeys that furthered Spitz's studies and explored the devastating consequences of isolation.
  • Confirmation-Novel
  • "'I want to go home," he whispered'" (Scott, 76).
  • The isolation Ender felt from already his family and school and now the academy was even more traumatizing. Ender even through the isolation has to show everyone who he really is even through the fire and flame.  After awhile Ender realizes what the isolation was all about and it made him better.
  • Reduction of social isolation brings out the brighter for the future generation.
  • Confirmation-Research
  • Loneliness appears to be widespread among Americans, affecting three out of every four people, researchers have found.
  • "By receiving social assistance, studies show that children can cope more easily with high levels of stress. Research has also shown that social support is strongly associated with feelings of mastery and the ability to deal with stressful situations, as well as strongly associated with increased quality of life" (Martin, Carlson & Buskist, 2009).
  • Concession/Refutation
  • Being socially isolated can bring many pros to our lives like; recharging our brains, or increases our productivity, it can boost our creativity, and can actually strengthen relationships with others.  Dr. Sherrie Bourg Carter explains, “Constantly being ‘on’ doesn’t give your brain a chance to rest and replenish itself. Being by yourself with no distractions gives you the chance to clear your mind, focus, and think more clearly. It’s an opportunity to revitalize your mind and body at the same time.”
  • The unfairness Ender goes through to reach his potential like isolation is so incompetent. Graff has to keep Ender isolated but not too isolated but why so Ender cam reach his potential or ultimately just be shattered by the effect of loneliness. “Isolate him enough that he remains creative – otherwise he’ll adopt the system here and we’ll lose him. At the same time, we need to make sure he keeps a strong ability to lead" (Scott, 58).
  • Conclusion
  • "With segregation, with the isolation of the injured and the robbed, comes the concentration of disadvantage. An unsegregated America might see poverty, and all its effects, spread across the country with no particular bias toward skin color. Instead, the concentration of poverty has been paired with a concentration of melanin" (Ta-Nehisi Coates).
  • Health insurer Cigna's 2018 U.S. Loneliness Index found that 46 percent of Americans report feeling lonely sometimes or always and 47 percent report feeling left out sometimes or always. A little less, 43 percent, report feeling isolated from others, and the same number report feeling they lack companionship and their relationships lack meaning.
  • Loneliness has a wide range of negative effects on both physical and mental health, including depression and suicide. All those bright minds we lose because they feel isolated and lonely.
  •  It is important to distinguish between healthy time alone, where we are being productive, creative and introspective, versus negative time alone, where we are being self-critical or feeling lonely. If you find yourself constantly around others and feeling depleted, make sure to schedule some healthy alone time. If you find yourself predominantly alone or are feeling lonely, make sure to invest more time seeking meaningful social connections.
  • While human beings need time alone to allow their brains to rest and rejuvenate, too much time alone or a lack of social connections can be harmful to our mental and physical health. It is important to distinguish between healthy time alone, where we are being productive, creative and introspective, versus negative time alone, where we are being self-critical or feeling lonely.  Social isolation has also its cons like; leaving us vulnerable to our inner critics, it can lead to painful loneliness and or depression, and bad very bad for our health.
  • "The worst cruelty that can be inflicted on a human being, is isolation" (Sukarno). "If isolation tempers the strong, it is the stumbling-block of the uncertain" (Paul Cezanne).
