Hi! I'm Dr. Kim. Today I will take you on a journey through the center of the Earth.
This is the Earth. Our Earth has 8 layers. A few days ago my washing machine fell through to the center of the Earth! It had my favorite lab coat in it!
I'll help you Dr. Kim! Lets go to the center of the Earth in my heat proof submarine.
This is the machine that we will be taking to travel through the earth. Our first stop is the crust. Come on Otis!
Coming! Is there food?
We have now arrived at the crust. It is from 392 to 752 degrees Fahrenheit down here and is made of many types of rocks.
The crust includes the oceanic crust and the continental crust. In total the crust is 3 to 6 miles thick. This is what the crust would look like. The core is made of sedimentary rocks, igneous rocks and metamorphic rocks and is a solid.
We are headed to the lithosphere. Its getting warmer and we are getting closer to my washing machine!
Is it even possible for her washing machine to fall to the center of the earth? I'm hungry...
Dr. Kim, where are we going next?
The lithosphere is solid and is very brittle. It is broken up into the moving plates that contain the world's continents and oceans.
We are at the lithosphere that is 50-100 kilometers thick. It is made up of the lower crust and the upper mantle.
