Hello kind mortal, I am Hermes the god of messenging and I will lead you to a land of peace
In ancient Greece death was complicated. Once you died, your soul goes on an adventure through to the "underworld" then the god of messaging, Hermes would lead you through the river styx. If you were good you went to Elysium which is a peaceful beautiful place for the good.
However, not everybody made it. If there were mortals who commited horrible sins or angered the gods greatly, they were sent to Tarturus to suffer eternally. But also there was a third alternative That was discovered by Aesop whose name means "unclear" He was a good man with good intentions but died from sickness. He said instead of Hermes greeting him, he was just walking down a white tunnel and when he reached the end he felt a warm embrace and had the choice to either, reincarnate and relive life as any creature or live in Elisium which is just like heaven.
But this third option can only be possible if the gods cannot decide what to do with you but know that you are a reasonable person. Aesop realized once he chose Elisium he felt a warm essense and realized all of his rights and wrongs. Aesop learned that every action you take will always stick with you. No matter what.
