  • As each day passed, their hunger grew as they regretted every minute they rode...
  • And now he was starving. But if he had stayed...(Lowry 217)
  • The days grew longer because of the inability to ride the bike through the snow.
  • He wept because he was afraid now that he could not save Gabriel. He no longer cared about himself (Lowry 218).
  • Through the struggles of the wind and snow Jonas knew he had to try harder for Gabriel.
  • But he had come this far. He must try to go on (Lowry 221).
  • As weeks went by, Jonas felt the memories start to fade away, lifting weight off of his shoulders.
