Stabilizing Selection

Storyboard Text

  • In the Bermuda Forest, there were plants with varying sizes.
  • There were small ones who were not able to compete with other plants for sunlight. There were also ones that were really long which makes it susceptible to wind damage.
  • As time went by, the really small ones started dying off because they could not get enough sunlight.
  • The really long ones started decreasing as well since the wind breaks the plant.
  • The combination of these two traits were the perfect combination to survive in this forest.
  • As a result, stabilizing selection has occurred. The medium sized plants started increasing in numbers and the really small and really long ones disappeared.
