Having arrived in Peru, John and Mark made their way to the edge of the mountain called Siula Grande using donkeys to transport all their equipment. It had never been climbed before although many people have tried.
Crevasse Field (Day 4)
Having reached the edge of the mountain, they established a camp at the base of the mountain to acclimatise. The donkeys will be sent back as they can't be used anymore due to the terrain.
Mark and John begin their attempt to be the first climbers using the West face to summit Siula Grande.
They will reach a crevasse field and have to navigate their way through without falling through the ice. They are attached to each other for safety using a rope.
They will try and reach the peak by the end of their day of climbing. They will have to use their ice axes as some areas will be very steep and you cant walk otherwise you will fall and most probably die.
They had finally reached the top of the mountain. They will be proud of themselves although before their journey they researched that 80% of accidents happen on the descent so their job was by far not done.
