  • In 1068, Henry Beauclerc was born. Henry's name, Beauclerc, means Good Writer and this shows his good education later in life.

  • In 1100, Henry becomes King Henry I. Then, he gets married to Matilda, the daughter of Malcom III of Scotland.
  • Matilda marries
  • On 1st August 1100, William Rufus was out hunting in the New Forest in Hampshire when he was shot with an arrow through the heart and died. It is a mystery to this day whether or not it was an accident but according to legend, he was hunting with Henry on that day.
  • He dies
  • Henry I had two children with his wife, one daughter Matilda (born 1102) and a younger son William (born 1103) and 22 illegitimate children with other women, at least nine sons and thirteen daughters.
  • In 1108, Henry arranged for his eight-year old daughter, Matilda, to marry Henry V, the future Holy Roman Emperor who ruled vast lands in the centre of Europe.
  • In late November 1135, Henry fell ill; according to the chronicler Henry of Huntingdon, he fell ill because he ate a large number of lampreys (a type of eel) against the doctor's advice.
