  • Alice Cogswell was a young deaf girl in the 1800's who had little way of communicating to everyone.
  • All the teachers who taught sign language were very costly and the only school who taught sign language was in London.
  • Alice's father even tried to establish a school in Connecticut for deaf children, but with no avail.
  • no school 4 deaf
  • that's when they met Thomas Gallaudet a graduate from Yale university and a new friend of his Laurent Clerc who wanted to help the deaf people in america.
  • Gallaudet and Clerc built a school for Alice and all the other deaf people and called it The American School for the Deaf.
  • Gallaudet was the principle until 1830.
