Storyboard Text

  • Heroic Qualities: Jocasta is the queen of Thebes, which makes her have a noble stature and some control over the kingdom. 
  • Listen to me and learn some piece of mind no skill in the world, nothing human can penetrate the future (line 799-782)
  • Tragic Flaw: Jocasta suffers from hubris, because she believes that she is greater than the gods, and Oedipus should listen to her over anyone else. 
  • Happiness to Misery: When Jocasta realizes the the prophecy is coming true, she chooses to cover up the truth instead of letting the public know, in order to save her reputation.
  • You're doomed- may you never fathom who you are! (line 1174-1175)
  • If you love your own life call off this search, my suffering is enough (line 1164-1165)
  • Blindness to Insight: Jocasta realizes what she has done, and the truth can not be covered anymore. She feels guilt for marrying her son and keep it from him. 
  • The queen is dead. (line 1364)
  • Tragic Ending: The audience feels pity for Jocasta, because Jocasta believed that the only way out of her unfortunate situation was to take her own life.
