Storyboard Text

  • Wow, this farm has been over-farmed. The soil is basically dead.
  • 30 year ago it looked like this.
  • Grandma, everything is being destroyed and the soil can´t be sustained.
  • We will find a solution.
  • Farms all over the country have been completely over farmed especially before the Dust Bowl from 1930-1936. In the Dust Bowl, farmers just destroyed the American prairie. They cut up all the trees, and crops and all it was, was soil. There were a bunch of storms happening and all this dust was picked up and thrown throughout the country causing major health problems from the dust ingestion. Now with newer technology, farmers do a better job, but the farmers before them destroyed the soil because people have thought it was renewable. We need good soil to grow crops. It might be the most important resource we have on Earth besides water, and it is getting overused and over farmed.
  • Have you thought of an idea to help the disruptors of soil conservation?
  • Yes, we can be more energy efficient by having better technology that predicts how farms should layout their crop, to make the soil last longer.
  • Farmers have also came in and started farming more and more land because they need to feed the rising, skyrocketing population. Over the last 50 years farms have increased in size drastically. This land that was once perfect and green has to be torn up and made to farm vital resources like corn and wheat. It's sad to think that because of the people who aren’t educated have a bunch of babies and need food destroying the planet. Solutions have to be made.
  • Also, farmers can use Eka 1 and Eka 2 seeds which are seeds that provide 2 to 3 times the amount of crop, so they won´t be over cropped, giving the soil a break.
  • In this picture, it’s another farm that has miles of land just for food. This soil needs a break.  Obviously food still has to be made with this rising population. For example, GMO’s could be used, but many people still don’t trust them even though scientists have proved they are fine and are amazing like drought resistant and able to produce more food. Obviously, I’m talking a lot about food a lot, but soil is where food is made so we need good, fertile soil. In the picture, this soil has been overused and needs to breathe like any living thing.
  • After your tips I went to a farm and they switched to Eka 1 seeds. The soil is now perfect!
  • I am happy to help. Soil is necessary for all the food we have and we need to keep it protected.
  • Better technology is key to the success of soil because farmers can map out where there soil last was and flop slides so the soil can just live for a harvest and then go back to being a crop grower. Also, they can track the nutrients held in the soil. Obviously soil can’t last forever, but this science can make it last generations based off the projections and how the land has been used before. This technology is key to agriculture.
  • Also, Eka seeds are a great technology that can save soil and agriculture all together. These seeds help grow trees next to crops, making it easier for soil to breathe for the off harvest where it’s not producing crops. These seeds are help covering up the Dust Bowl. We need to cover up hundreds of miles of land that are just dust. Uninhabitable and these crops that would cover it up, will provide three times the amount of food. It’s phenomenal technology that could save soil.
  • After doing the research on soil and doing a storyboard, soil is okay right now, but it might be in trouble, but the technology could save it. Creating these awesome plans will plan exactly how the soil will be in 25 years. This is an expert plan seeing how it could last for 25 years. Also, these Eka seeds, provide triple the amount of food and cover up worthless soil in uninhabitable conditions. Now soil doesn’t need to be used as often, saving it for later years when we need it.
