Storyboard Text

  • Slave Trade
  • Seeking outside resources
  • Mercantilism
  • There was a need for workers in America, and there weren't enough people available.
  • Bringing slaves to the US
  • Since the colonists did not have enough workers, they headed to Africa.
  • The path for slaves
  • Once merchants started paying for slaves in Africa, the Triangular Trade began, setting up Africa's future slave trade-based economy.
  • Further Disaster Ahead for Africa
  • Crossing the "Middle Passage", slaves were shipped across the ocean, with many getting ill and dying.
  • Slaves were used predominantly for agriculture until after the US finally ceased its practice of slavery.
  • Africa began to rely on the Europeans' goods from the slave trade, and thus, once slavery ended in the United States, Africa's economy crashed, leaving it vulnerable to European colonization.
