Once merchants started paying for slaves in Africa, the Triangular Trade began, setting up Africa's future slave trade-based economy.
Further Disaster Ahead for Africa
Crossing the "Middle Passage", slaves were shipped across the ocean, with many getting ill and dying.
Slaves were used predominantly for agriculture until after the US finally ceased its practice of slavery.
Africa began to rely on the Europeans' goods from the slave trade, and thus, once slavery ended in the United States, Africa's economy crashed, leaving it vulnerable to European colonization.
