  • "Sir, I love you more than words can wield the matter; dearer than eyesight, space, and liberty"
  • "In my true heart, I find (Goneril) names my very deed of love, only she comes too short, that I profess myself an enemy to all other joys which the most precious square of sense possesses and find I am alone felicitate in your dear highness' love"
  • I feel no need for me to express my love through words. My father should just know!
  • "From whom we do exist and cease to be; here I disclaim all my paternal care, propinquity, and property of blood, and as a stranger to my heart and me hold thee from this for ever"
  • Goneril is first to express her love for her father with great exaggeration. He is satisfied with her choice of words.
  • Get out of my sight!
  • Regan is second to express her love for her father with great exaggeration she tops Goneril by elaborating upon her sister's statement. He is also satisfied with her choice of words.
  • Why do you hide that letter so quickly? Let me read it!
  • I'm not sure you want to read it.
  • His youngest and favourite daughter refuses to express her love through words as she feels her father should already know how much she loves him. Cordelia refuses to speak causing her father to become so enraged he disowns her. Kent attempts to step in on the argument and Lear banishes him for this.

  • After disagreeing with King Lear's cations Kent is banished and must be gone within six days.

  • Edmund holds a letter he forged to discredit Edger. In the letter Edger appears to be plotting the death of his father Gloucester. He pretends to hide the letter in hope of his father demanding to see it.
  • Kent returns to Goneril's castle, in disguise as a peasant calling himself Caius. King Lear not knowing excepts him into service.
