Storyboard Text

  • On July 2, 1776, the delegates voted unanimously that the American colonies were free.
  • I want freedom!
  • I want freedom!
  • I want freedom!
  • On July 4, 1776, they adopted the Declaration of Independence.
  • WE'RE FREE!
  • I declare us INDEPENDENT!
  • YAY!
  • Americans now faded a difficult, bitter choice: revolution or loyalty to the Crown. This issue divided communities, friends, and even families throughout the colones.
  • We must stay loyal to the crown!
  • No! We need freedom!
  • Now the colonies were plunged into two wars--a war for independence and a civil war in which Americans found themselves on opposing sides. In declaring their independence, the Patriots had invited war with the mightiest empire on earth.
  • We can't leave the crown!
  • WAR!
  • FREEDOM! FREEDOM! FREEDOM!
