Storyboard Text

  • Edna Pontellier and her husband Leonce Pontellier are on vacation with their two sons in Grand Isle.
  • Edna, dear, you are burnt beyond recognition.
  • Edna is unhappy with her life.
  • Tell me more about your problems, Edna; I can stay here all day.
  • Robert Lebrun, a friend of Edna's who is close to her age, visits her all summer. Their relationship becomes stronger the more time they spend together.
  • Why didn't he tell me he was leaving?!
  • After spending all day with Robert, Edna starts having feelings for him. Robert leaves the next day for a job in Mexico.
  • Leonce leaves for a work related trip, and Edna sends her children to their grandmother's house.
  • This is going to be a perfect home for me and only me.
  • Edna is tired of being reminded of her alliance to Leonce, so she moves out of the house into a smaller one, where she believes she will have more independence.
  • Robert returns and runs into Edna. They kiss and declare their love for each other.
  • Edna's best friend, Adéle, is going into labor. Edna has to leave to go and help her, and Robert asures her he will wait for her to return.
  • I missed you too Robert!
  • When Edna comes back, she finds that Robert had left. He cannot break society's rules to be with her.
  • I missed you Edna!
  • I cannot change my role in life; I will never be happy.
  • Edna believes she will never have the life she truly wants. Her only escape is death.
