  • In the 1800s, Northern cities grew larger because of the industrial revolution and urbanization
  • Factories in the North manufactured goods that were then sold all over the world
  • Even though slavery was abolished, there was still plently of segragation in the north
  • In the south, most people made money from cash crops that were grown on farms and plantations
  • The main labor in the south was slavery. Slave Codes took away rights and slaves were treated like property
  • Even though there were free black people in the south, slave catchers could simply kidnap them and have them sold to plantation owners anyway. No one was safe
