In the 1800s, Northern cities grew larger because of the industrial revolution and urbanization
Factories in the North manufactured goods that were then sold all over the world
Even though slavery was abolished, there was still plently of segragation in the north
In the south, most people made money from cash crops that were grown on farms and plantations
The main labor in the south was slavery. Slave Codes took away rights and slaves were treated like property
Even though there were free black people in the south, slave catchers could simply kidnap them and have them sold to plantation owners anyway. No one was safe
