Next, they must avoid the clashing rocks, that nearly no one comes out alive from. They choose to go around these.
When they decided to go around the rocks, they must face either Scylla, a giant six headed monster who devoured men, or Charybdis, a huge whirlpool that swallows anything near it 3 times a day.
They choose the Scylla and 6 of the sailers got eaten.
The gods did not like that Odysseus tried to defeat the immortal monsters...
