  • Prince Shotoku first got started when his aunt, Empress Suiko, asked him to be her regent. Once he said yes, Shotoku's rule lasted from 593 to 622.
  • I know! I'll make guidelines based on Confucian principles for our leaders.
  • Prince Shotoku was impressed by Chinese culture and wanted his people to learn from China. He sent Japanese scholars and artist to China to go study Chinese society.
