Storyboard Text

  • Acid rain is the sulfur dioxide and nitrogen dioxide emissions react with the water vapor in the atmosphere and form acids that return to the surface as either dry or wet deposition.
  • The first cause of acid rain is the smoke coming from the factories and vehicles. The smoke coming from the factories and buildings are made up of  Sulfur dioxide (S02) and Nitrogen Oxide  (N02).
  • SO2
  • These harmful gasses float into the air and merge with the clouds. When they get into the clouds they stay and cause pollution and acid rain.
  • NO2

  • liquid acid
  • When the acidic pollutants are in the sky they combine with air and water that creates liquid acid.

  • liquid acid
  • The liquid acid then turns into rain and other precipitation like sleet, hail or snow.
  •     The effects of the acid rain deposition are declining aquatic animal populations, thin shelled eggs preventing bird reproduction, because the calcium is unavailable in acidic soil and forest decline.
