Odysseus was struck with and idea that would insure that the Greeks would win. They would give the Trojans a mysterious wooden horse with a hollow belly filled with soldiers. What they didn't know was that it was Greeks fighting force.
This is such an exciting day!
When dawn broke the next day the Greeks followed their plan and made a big show of leaving sadly, as if in defeat. They boarded their ships and sailed away, leaving the horse behind to their "victors."
I can't believe that our plan worked and we are inside the walls of Troy.
The Trojans were overjoyed thinking that they had won the war. Once Trojan priest looked at this wooden horse he didn't like it and said it should be burned. The gods weren't happy and interfered. The sent a serpent that killed the priest and his sons. The people of Troy took this as a sign and brought the wooden horse inside the city walls of Troy.
For hours the Trojans celebrated, drinking, feasting, and dancing. Thinking that they had won this very long, hard battle.
What the Trojans didn't know was that the Greeks had sailed back during the night and that this was all a plan. The stomach of the horse had opened and soldiers come out and open the gates for the whole Greek army. The whole Greek army was finally all inside the city walls of Troy.
The Greeks swept in and killed anyone who challenged them. King Priam was slain and most women were taken to be slaves. The Greeks finally won the war! They set Troy on fire.
