  • In this setting, Ponyboy is influenced to run away with Johnny. This happens because when Ponyboy is being drowned, Johnny couldn't just stand there and see his friend die. All he thought was,"It's either Ponyboy or the soc". Ponyboy feels anxious and nervous. He was thinking about all of the things that he did not get to do in his short life. He thought that he was going to die.
  • Johnny helps Ponyboy in ways that nobody else in the Greasers group could. Johnny was Ponyboy's best friend. They could understand each other without talking. They worked really well together because they are both quite, and they were both the smallest in the group so they had to stick together. When Johnny was near Ponyboy, Ponyboy felt like someone loved him. Johnny influenced Ponyboy to stay golden and when Johnny died, Ponyboy became more violent.
  • situation felt like he was in the right place at the right time when Darry started talking dirty to some of the socs girls. When it started to get ugly, Ponyboy and Johnny stopped Darry from saying anything that could get this ugly situation even more disgusting. When Darry walked away, the girls invited Ponyboy and Johnny to sit with them and watch the movie. They then left and got a ride from their boyfriends.
