Storyboard Text

  • The Brain Game Katherine Gan AP Psychology 1B
  • Hey Carson, did you get invited to the Brain Game?
  • Hey Merson! Yeah I did! It's a race to see who can uncover the most correct information on the brain the fastest. Good luck!
  • The brain is split into the right (artistic, creative) and left (logical, factual) hemispheres, which transmit messages through the axon fibers in the corpus callosum.
  • Carson
  • We join Carson at the Basics of the Brain Seminar-the first step to uncovering Brain Game clues
  • The brain is also split into the cerebral cortex, the body's ultimate control center, the brainstem, the oldest part of the brain responsible for survival functions, and the cerebellum, or the "little brain" attached to the brainstem.
  • Carson
  • The Basics of the Brain Seminar continues with a model of the cerebellum or the "little brain" in maroon.
  • Great question, Carson! The limbic system, a doughnut system between the brain's older parts and hemispheres, controls emotions such as sadness and drives for food and sex.
  • How does the brain control happiness, sadness, or any other emotion?
  • After the Basics of the Brain Seminar ends, Carson stays behind to ask a question for the Brain Game.
  • Hm...the base of the brainstem, or the medulla, controls heart rate and breathing while the pons, part of the upper brainstem, control communication between different areas of the brain.
  • Meanwhile, Merson heads to the library to dig up Brain Game answers and luckily, finds a book about the brain stem.
