  • The egyptian military had been pressuring the british army to leave the canal zone
  • WHERE IS BRITAIN AND FRANCE?!
  • Supported by the soviet army and money, furious with the United States for reneging on a promise to provide funds for construction of the Aswan dam on the Nile river, Nasser ordered the Canal siezed and Nationalized.
  • I don't know what you three think you are doing, but if you don't stop now I will order that nuclear missiles rain down on Western Europe!!
  • Britain sought help from Isreal and France to take back the canal
  • It's time to pack it up boys!
  • Israel struck first on October 26,1956. Britain and France arrived two days later. Originally the three countries were supposed to strike at once.
  • Nikita Khruhschev, the Soviet leader, railed against the invasion and threatened to rain down nuclear missiles on Western Europe if the Israel-British-France force did not withdraw.
  • The threats did their work. The British and France forces withdrew by December; Israel finally bowed to U.S pressure in March 1957. In the aftermath of the Suez Crisis Britain and France found their influence on world powers weakened.
