  • Ruth! Ruth honey-what's the matter with you...Ruth!
  • Act Two
  • I always wanted to live in a house.
  • She went out and she bought you a house!
  • This is the scene where Walter discusses his future plans and dream of owning a liquor store with Ruth, but she does not really care to listen...again. Conflict: Walter's dreams are not being recognized
  • Act Two
  • Yessss! All of it...It's gone...
  • You mean...your sister's school used that too...Walter?...
  • This is the scene where Ruth collapses in Mama's room, unaware at the time that she was pregnant. Conflict: Family can't afford a baby
  • Act Three
  • We have decided to move into our house because my father-he earned it for us...
  • This scene is where Mama comes home from running her errand and reports that she bought a house for the family. Ruth is enthralled, but Walter is very disappointed
  • Act Three
  • Y'all come on! These people charges by the hour, you know!
  • All right, honey-go on down. I be down directly.
  • This is the scene when Walter tells Mama and Beneatha that he spent all the money Mama gave him on his liquor store plan, which isnt even going to work, instead of giving some to Beneatha to pay for school.
  • This is the scene when Walter redeems himself by standing up for the family and telling Lindner that they were going to move into their new house, whether or not the neighbors disapprove.
  • This is the scene when the Youngers bring all their boxes down to the moving truck outside, and Mama says goodbye to her house...and her husband, for the last time.
