  • Animal Farm's Windmill and Stalin's Five Year Plan WHAT ARE THEY & HOW ARE THEY RELATED?
  • I'm Cherman
  • I'm Jonah
  • Revolution Gone Wrong!
  • The Windmill is presented as a way to supply the farm with electricity, which would “light the stalls and warm them in winter,” and would help the animals to build machines that would “do their work for them” so that all of them could enjoy working only three days a week.
  • THE WINDMILL Animal Farm by George Orwell
  • The Five Year Plan is presented as a way to use industrialization (iron, steel, tools, electric power, machine tools, armament production, and transport) to improve work production, which would grow the national economy and benefit everyone.
  • They are both “plans” that promise easier and better lives for everyone. I.e., if everyone pitches in to work hard, the things that they are building (machines, etc.), they will personally benefit from all of their hard work.
  • Hey, these machines will make our lives easier and we can work fewer hours! Yay!
  • Hay! More hay! If we build the windmill, our lives will be easier and we won't have to work so hard!
  • Five year Plan
  • The Windmill
  • Calling All Farm Animals: Voluntary Sunday Work Required! Even though the animals succeed in building the windmill, they do not benefit personally from all of their hard work. They suffer shortages and are forced to do "voluntary" work... on Sunday. The windmill does not provide them with basic necessities.
  • Stalin's first year plan to bring the Soviet Union into the 20th Century fails! Work production does NOT improve and actually worsens, which results in mass starvation! Shortened work weeks (promised by the plan) are NOT happening!
