We took a vow and then tossed barley onto the altar and cow.
Next I cut a few hairs from the cow's forehead and threw it onto the fire for the gods' taster.
As the throat was cut, I had to let out a high-pitched cry to mark the passage from life to death.
I had to raise it over the altar and cut the cow's throat.
The blood is sprayed over the top and sides of the altar. It is a holy duty to stain the altar with blood.
The cow is skinned and butchered and the thighbones are cut off, wrapped in fat and burnt on the altar. The smoke rises to the heavens and feeds the gods. Remember to look for omens when the smoke goes up!
Finally the meat was boiled and we shared it. We hardly ever eat meat so it was a big feast and the community came together and celebrated with us!
