  • The southern colonies were very successful. We have lots of Crops to sell and make money from
  • Southern Colonies 1600's
  • Settlers first came here in 1607, for more trade, more land and more tobacco farming. 
  • We made money from, cash crops tobacco, rice and indigo
  • Virginia  1607
  • We made money from mostly fishing, and some tobacco growing
  • Settlers purpose of moving to Maryland was for religious freedom. A place for all us Catholics could practice their religion without fear. 
  • Maryland 1632
  • North Carolina 1712
  • North Carolina and South Carolina was created by 8 proprietors who received land grant from the king of England 
  • These two states ( North and South Carolina) started from good trade and farming. Same as most states in the southern colonies, rice and indigo was grown.
  • South Carolina 1719
  • This state was a "haven for debtors" This state was for people who owed money could go, and make a new start in life! This avoided people from going to jail and rot in a cell until they had enough money to pay.
  • Georgia 1732
