Toussaint was born in 1743 into a world where dark skinned people had no rights. He was a self educated slave with no military training. But in the year of 1791 he learned that he was more than a slave.
I need to do something for all of my brothers and sisters! they deserve a better life!
After slavery had been ended, Toussaint became the leader of the slave rebellion which was fighting the French and invading Spanish and Britain.
Lets go get them!
Toussaint after your 7 victories in 7 days we are naming you a de facto governor of our colony!
Maximilian Robespierre was sent to the guillotine then Napoleon was ruling France. He reinstated slavery in Haiti which plunged Haiti into war.
By 1803 Napoleon and Toussaint agreed to terms of peace. Haiti then became independent but that meant Toussaint had to retire from public life. After a few months the French invited Toussaint to a meeting with guaranteed safety.
When he arrived at this 'meeting' he was arrested and put on a ship and placed in a prison dungeon in the mountains and murdered by means of cold, starvation and neglect. He may have died but the fight for freedom continued.
