After the Battle of Chancellorsville, Robert E. Lee was so confident that he could easily defeat the Union Army. Unfortunately, he underestimated the strength of the army and was defeated at several battles.
Robert E. Lee signs the treaty at Appomattox Courthouse with dignity, officially ending the American Civil War. His starving soldiers were treated as countrymen, and were fed Union rations. They were even allowed to keep their firearms.
